The Franklin D. Roosevelt Library, administered by the National Archives and Records Administration, was opened in 1941 on a site located near Springwood, the Roosevelt home; In 1971 the Eleanor Roosevelt wings were added. The Library contains the political and personal papers of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt and members of their families. In addition there are more than 200 manuscript collections, containing papers of political associates, and friends of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. The Library also contains related publications — government documents, periodicals, unpublished manuscripts, dissertations. The printed materials are accompanied by a collection of 130,000 still photographs and other audio visual materials.
